JANIE MCGHIN AWARDED AANP 2018 STATE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

August 2nd, 2018

Congratulations to our very own Janie McGhin, for being presented the 2018 State Award of Excellence by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners at the organization's national conference in Denver, Colorado. McGhin is the current present of the South Georgia Association of Nurse Practitioners and has been an active member since its formation twenty years ago. The AANP is the largest professional membership organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties and awards only one nurse practitioner per state that demonstrates excellence in practice.

“I believe nurse practitioners will play a very important role in the future of health care,” McGhin said. “We can provide quality, compassionate health care at reasonable costs. We will never replace physicians, but we can extend the availability of health-care services. Due to their caseloads, most physicians have to limit the time they spend with each patient. Diabetes self-management education requires a lot of time. That is my specialty. I get referrals from physicians for this, and I make referrals to physicians when I have primary-care patients with problems beyond my expertise.”
